Meet Willow: Paralyzed puppy who calls St. Francis Farm her home!

Meet Willow

At just 5 weeks of age, life as Willow would ever know it changed traumatically. She fell into the hands of irresponsible adults and a group of children who maliciously abused her. They injured her so badly that she suffered a pelvic fracture, broken ribs and nerve damage that has left her completely paralyzed from the waist down. As a result of their abuse she cannot use her rear legs and has no control over her bladder or bowels. We're sure that she wonders what she did to deserve this - and so do we! Willow doesn't understand why she cannot run and play like all of the other dogs? She woke up that morning able to walk, and went to sleep that night with over half of her body nearly destroyed.

As horrifying as her story is, what we must focus on now is her future. We are not sure that she will ever have a "normal" life, but what we do know is that we are going to do everything in our power to try to give her the best life possible. Over the last 2 months we have given her crate rest - as directed by the vet - in hopes her pelvic fracture would heal. Upon viewing a second set of X-rays it was determine her pelvis has healed, and Willow finally got a referral to a neurologist as her legs remain immobile. When the neurologist read her file and our veterinarian's notes, they considered her case an emergency and want to see her immediately.

We knew going into the appointment that a positive outcome was not guaranteed. Regretfully, we did not receive the news which we had hoped for. Tragically Willow is not a candidate for surgery as the severity of her nerve damage is beyond repair. This news is heartbreaking for all of us who love and care about Willow, however we must push forward and formulate a plan B.

In the meantime, our staff is dedicated to giving Willow the best quality of life that we can possibly provide for her. We are currently researching wheel chair companies with the intentions of purchasing an adjustable chair and we are committed to providing all that Willow needs to ensure her happiness.

Willow will call St. Francis Farm her forever home!
We are seeking lifetime sponsors for this sweet, special girl.
